My first research document

My Notes:

  • Most commonly abused drug - alcohol, is  also over looked by most people, and it is available to almost anyone
  • It is legal for adults to have possession of alcohol
  • The main reason young kids drink is  to keep themselves  from feeling stressed or  feeling down
  • "Three million children aged 14 to 17 are problem drinkers"
  • "Peer group pressure is one of the major reasons for adolescent drinking"
  • Alcohol is responsible for changes is normal growth and development of the body, lower grades, family and social problems, mood changes , and greater sexual activity
  • "Driving under the influence has become the leading cause of death for young adults, aged 15 to 24 years."
  • Some teens try drugs and alcohol just for the fun of it or to be cool and fit in.
  • "Most adolescents never advance beyond the trial stage in drug use."
  • Only one out of every four teenagers recover from advanced stages of drug abuse
  • "Prevention is the best treatment"
  • Parents can help their children say no to drugs by: building their self-esteem, listening to what they have to say, offering advice about handling strong emotions, discussing topics of concern to them, and encouraging outside activities
  • "Having a drink should never be shown as a way to cope with problems."
