My second research document

My notes:

  • Teens try different substances and drugs a few time and then stop but others can't (1)
  • Teens can try any number of substances from inhalants to cigarettes (1)
  • "Marijuana is the illegal drug that teens in Canada use most often with about 1 in 3 high school students using tobacco and marijuana." (1)
  • Teens tend to try substances for the fun of it or how it makes them, or because their peers want them to
  • "Teens with family members who have problems with alcohol or other drugs are more likely to have serious substance abuse problems"(1)
  • "Substance abuse can lead to serious problems such as poor school work, loss of friends, problems at home, and lasting legal problems." (1)
  • Casual use of some drugs can cause medical problems such as brain damage, overdosing, etc.(1)
  • Some sins of substance abuse are: Red eyes and health complaints, less of an interest in school, different friends who are possibly a bad influence, and chemical soaked rags and papers. (1)
  • One of the most important things to if you find that your teen is doing drugs or using alcohol, is talking openly with them and urging them to do the same (1)
  • "The type of treatment your teen needs depends on the level of substance abuse." (1)
  • Some tips for prevent teen substance abuse are: talking with them early on, keeping them active in meaningful activities, enforcing household rules, praising them and talking with them, and know your teen's friends (1)
